Bright and bold Geometrical print

Hello!

It's  already September! I find this month somewhat special. Special in a way that it marks the end of Summer and Rainy seasons in India and gives a touch of Autumn to the weather. The air is a bit soothing for long walks in the evenings with cosy sunsets...

Well, I can go on and on describing the beautiful weather all day :)

Today, I thought of posting this geometrical print (though an old print yet one of the most loved pieces from my Spoonflower Shop).

Bright Geometrical- A bright and bold collection of prints in three colour ways. Ideal for home & interiors, wallpaper decor, lifestyle products, etc.

Ever since I started surface pattern designing, I have found my major inclination towards creating something home related- fabrics that would look good on home furnishing, and wallpapers- to decorate your accented walls too! I loved creating this geo print. It is a very simple geometrical print yet has a bohemian aesthetic to it, isn't it?

You can find them as fabrics by the yard and other home products in my Spoonflower shop. And as home products and giftware in my Society6 shop.

Have a relaxing weekend!

Lovely Mandalas and Aztec print

Hello, everyone!

It's quite a long time since I shared my life with you...

I created some new designs for Kess Inhouse. Beautiful Mandala designs in traditional Indian block-print style. Mandalas are everyone's favorite. I am loving the colors. You would have noticed that recently I have started using different color palettes. Amazing color combinations for an amazing look.

Chakra, the wheel (of life). It took me forever to create the design. The style was new, and so was the color palette. I wanted something different from what I had already created. Something really dense and yet beautiful. And, well, I think I did it, isn't it?

Some new designs with new colors --- Dreamy Aztec and Zigzag. While my Dreamy Aztec is a very busy print, Zigzag has simple line drawings.

Mandala Magic is the first in the series of mandala designs. I just love these colors and motifs, and everything. I think it will look great in another colorway too. I must try. What do you think?

I hope you love these. You can see the full collection of home products here.

Have a lovely Sunday!

New pattern collection + a step-by-step guide

 Hello!

How are you? I'm perfectly fine.
Yes, I know its been a long time since I posted anything here in my 'BLOG-LOVELY-BLOG!!!

Today I have something special and something new here, very new. Today I'm going to share a brand new pattern + a step-by-step guide (tutorial) too. Yeah!

I know this process is very simple but it is always good to start with simple motifs and simple designs (and simple process) if you are a beginner.

OK, many of you (designers) already know about Adobe Illustrator. I have made this pattern in AI (Adobe Illustrator) with the help of only one tool--- BLOB Brush tool!

But I must tell you that this is not the only method to create patterns in AI. There are other ways and other tools too. And not to forget the tradition way of drawing... pencil and paper!

So, lets get started---

You will find this tool just below the Paintbrush tool. If you can't see the tools, no problem. Just go to WINDOW>TOOLS.

Step one- Open a new document (art board) in AI. Click 'File>New and choose the art-board size of your choice. I took 4in x 4in square.
Click on the BLOB Brush tool and draw a flower, a simple freehand flower.

Now click on the Direct Selection tool (white arrow) and select the inner outline of your flower (not the outer outline). Click the delete button and WOW you have completely filled the flower in a solid colour, no outline to be seen. Actually, with this process you remove the inner white space and fill the object completely. Now you have a flower motif in two ways-- outline and filled! I took the 'filled' ones for my pattern.

Draw a star-shaped icon and remove the white space with the same process as you did with the flower motif.

Now choose a lovely colour palette for your flowers. This part is my favourite. I love colours. I selected some Spring/Summer colours here.

Want to experiment more with your motif? Add a few details and dots to it, again, with the Blob Brush!

Well, I was not very satisfied with the flowers. It seemed to me that something was missing in them... Ummm... yes, some more details needed. I added a few drop-shapes in them and now it looks complete.

Arrange these flowers to make a pattern, overlapping, sometimes, if needed.
And, here you have a colourful floral pattern in seamless repeat for home furnishing, kids' wall paper, pillows, dresses, wrapping papers and other stationery products...

That was fun creating a pattern, isn't it? What do you think of this pattern, and where would you like to see this?

Got any questions or any other queries about creating patterns,..? Please mail me!

Happy Weekend!

Had a little fun + two new prints + a new shop!

Hello FRIDAY!

Today I planned of taking a break from my usual routine of creating patterns for my shops... And look what I did when I got that long awaited free time! A funny project (for myself) in 4 colorways... I don't know right now what I am going to do with these or where to use them, but I am very happy to create something really simple and funny. I am loving it!

OK, some serious job now. This week I added two new artworks in my Society6 store.

GREEN- Society6 shop

GREY on WHITE- Society6 shop

These prints are available on other products too-- pillows, tote bags, mugs, shower curtains etc.

I am working with Kim Designs!

Hello dear friends,

There is a time in your career when you have to decide about taking a new turn - a new road that will further lead you towards success. I started my surface design career making logos for new brands, doing a few freelance jobs for fabric companies. Then came a time to license my designs for bigger brands and other products… and I gained success in that too! But you see I am a normal human being, and normal people don’t stop at just one success --- they keep on searching new challenges, creating new goals, fulfilling them and keep searching for new adventures that life has in store for them…

My journey continues…

A few months ago I joined ‘Kim Designs--- The World’s Premier Design Studio and House.

‘’ Kim Designs is an online portal for procuring designs, patterns, prints and art for all product development needs. The company serves the top retailers and manufacturers throughout the world with art and prints that are geared for North American (and European) retail. Kim Designs has art and designs for apparel, textiles, gift-wrap, paper/stationery, seasonal specialties, home fashions and home accents. ‘’

Kim Designs, based in Winchester, Virginia (USA), was created by Kim Weisgerber Craig in May of 2005. Kim Designs offers thousands of patterns and artwork that is ready for "immediate delivery", Kim Design also specializes in custom design services. Her clients include Wal-Mart, Target, Kleenex, Creative Converting, Duck Tape, Crate and Barrel, Chicos, to name a few...

I am among the 250 designers in Kim Designs, and I am proud to be there!

Kim is such a sweet person to work with. She is always there with her sweet suggestions and her sweetest smile (yup, I can see her from India!). She updates us with the latest ‘call’ (live briefs from companies), and also with what trends and colours are in… !

I have seen a great change in me. I have become more focused, more serious, and fast in submitting to the client’s needs. All thanks go to Kim Craig for her brilliant guidance!
