Hello dear readers,
Today I would like to feature UDD- a happy textile brand... run by a lovely pair--- Yuti Shah Edward and her hubby Atul Edward !!
UDD means FREEDOM ... the nature, the sky--- no boundaries !
Yuti is a graphic designer by profession and an artist by heart. Their faith in each other, love for art, design, Indian Color and the ability to have all the freedom gave birth to UDD! In their own words, '' We at Udd encourage the Bohemian Spirit and get inspired by folk -tribal art, which is then transformed into beautiful art fabrics!! ''
A small interview with Yuti , sharing a few words from her ...
Enjoy !
'' ME, MYSELF, HAPPINESS ''
A painting made by Yuti.
Simple- happy- free spirited!
What do you like to do when you are not designing ?
Travel...
Describe your style ?
Happy- bohemian
What's your favorite color ?
It's hard to pick one favorite when there exists such gorgeous color palettes.
Tell us about your first collection ( what was the idea behind that theme...) and your first show ?
UDD’S first theme was inspired by Indian mythology and Indian Gods and Goddesses. So we had goddess Durga, Shiv- Parvati, Matsya etc. of course all in the UDD style of folk art! We had our launch at Zenzi in mumbai- ( a lounge) with Black Taxi ( is a organization that hosts shows for individuals like us).
When did you get the idea that 'designing' was the thing you love ?
Ever since I was a child I knew I wanted to do some thing creative! I have been a graphic designer by profession and I always LOVED DESIGN- be it any kind/surface! But I hate designing when it has to be commercial with too many guide lines and restrictions for a specific client and specific use. I feel it then looses the essence and character.
Anything you want to share to your readers about setting up his/her own business ?
Just follow your heart and be courageous !
Who is your dream client ? Is there anyone 'special' for whom you would like to design ?
We feel happy just making a difference in anybody’s life. Adding that but of sunshine gives us pleasure.
Your greatest inspiration is ?
I get inspired by everything around, be it at home or when we travel. From a photograph, to music, to art - everything stimulates me!
How would you describe your work place ..?
Nandita- being honest- its not our dream place as yet, but we are getting there! ( fingers crossed) its hard to find and sustain reasonable and spacious places in a city like Mumbai.
