paisley,continued...

The stained glass painting effect is fun and beautiful. Leave that stained glass colours which is often (or can say always) used while painting a glass, but now do it with oil or enamel colours which are used on doors etc., yeah the doors can wait to be painted later. First do the outlines with enamel paint in black or any dark colour, leave it to dry completely ---it can take a few hours, then turn the glass so that the outlined side is facing downwards and then fill the whole glass with the colours of your choice and avoid mixing the wet colours, leave it to dry completely once again---overnight, preferably...I like it painting this way so that the outlined part is facing me and the total effect is well a 3d one!!! Do it and see it for yourself. The “ students oil colours “ used on canvasses can also be used while filling, but it takes a few days to dry a single layer! It is a slow process but a different as well as a beautiful experience. I've used this pattern as a yoke on one of my dresses. I embroidered it, but doing it on glass was wonderful. As a solo performer...

A panel with leaves on the side borders...

A single border...and sometimes doubled, too...

A single beauty...

paisleys-- stained glass effect ...

Working on glass is so much fun . How a simple and transparent glass changes into something glamorous and so very colourful , is something amazing !!

This is a '' FOUR SEASON ''pattern.

The Summer , as we see , is so full of bright and a variety of greens . The Sun , too, is somewhat brighter than any other months...The leaf , in shape of paisley depicts , the Summer ...and the lemon yellow is the bright sunlight...

Next ,comes the Winter , with it's dull and snowy days . Full of fog and frost , the leaves are no more green , and the sunny days---something of the past ! Everywhere you find the snow-covered branches . The brightness which we've earlier felt in Summer is lost , leaving only a dull and grey effect all over the surroundings...Here I show the fogginess of those days with dull shades because wherever we see its the fog which doesn't allow any leaf or flower to show its true colour...

Now comes the Autumn , when all the dead and old leaves shed themselves to give space for the new life to enter in this '' ALL - COLOURFUL '' world !! The colours , I chose are all in different shades of yellow and some browns ,too , to show the decay and fall... rarely you find some greens left and a few flowers...so I gave this paisley a few touches of orange and green to show that the dull days are ready to leave giving place for the brighter ones...!

Now , at last comes our Spring...a new life , a new beginning , a new and bright hope that ''ALL's WELL THAT ENDS WELL ...'' Everywhere you find flowers of all kinds and of all colours ... amazing isn't it ? The Autumn days are over ----''Love's in the air . The bright , blue and clear sky , the sunny days , the cool breezes , the green grass , the rainbows ---all promise a better future , so let's start dreaming in this beautiful world..!!

                                                         ....more patterns , awaiting .

Henna-inspired paisley

 Hello,

Try making this pattern on your hands as a henna design, or on other surfaces you prefer. Like painting on bed sheets , tablecloths , stoles , curtains ,cushions , wall panel ( like this one I made ) ...the playgrounds are endless . I said '' playground '' because creating something is similar to playing...as I think !!! ...Starting with a very common and simple paisley pattern , I gave it a henna-inspired touch . A step by step process is shown here...go ahead , discover a paisley beauty !

closeups of the pencil sketches...

for the first time I've tried my ( not-so-new ) water colour pencils...and see I'm loving it !!

closeup...I gave some touches with wet brush on all the pinks and browns , and dabbed the blue background and mixed all the pencil lines.

                                                                      ...finished .

paisley......revisited--1

This design was something I found on the idol of MAA GURGA during the NAVRATRA . In one of the idols SHE was wearing this paisley as HER earlobes and on a crown . Most of the designs in HER jewellery are connected with paisley figures and having a hint of peacocks too .
This pattern can also be converted as a dancing peacock if added a beak . All the petal shapes going upward can be taken as the tail . You'll find these type of peacock patterns very common in INDIA .
What I did was to change a bit here and a bit there as I wanted to use it as a yoke on my dress. Because the original pattern was made of cardboards and a lots and lots of gold and silver papers and gota works . I also used a lace of golden beads to highlight as well as to give an outline .Some sequins and bright embroidery threads did their work ...

Hi , long time...no see . Exams my dear exams , not mine ( obviously) but of my two little daughters' , who never miss a chance to make me a ''student '' each time the exam-season comes !!

Well , embroidery is something I love doing , like many of you . There is a charm in embroidery , a delicacy , a richness which it gives to the fabric and changes the whole look of the things---whether it is a dress , or a wall panel ,or a pillow cover a or it may be a curtain or even a small piece like a hankie.....
Like the vastness of surfaces , the design too is vast ---- from floral to animals , from landscape to human figures , from abstract and dreamy to something scary ...., from DIWALI to CHRISTMAS , from spirals to paisleys.....the theme goes on and on....But there are a few themes that never go outdated , for instance take paisleys .

Now today I'm mostly turning towards paisleys ---every body's all time favourite . And you find it everywhere ----in CHRISTMAS cards , wall papers , stoles , jewellery , embroidered panels . This theme is so common and versatile that you'll find it on the cotton sari pallus also , and some intricate INDIAN ( MUGHAL ) paintings , and on the hands of the brides... yes , not to forget all those beautiful mehendi ( henna ) designs by which we girls ( ladies now !! ) decorated our hands and feet at the times of any festivals , holidays and of course our ''marriage '' !

So this March I'm going to spend my time drawing paisley patterns for embroidering , painting , stencilling , stamping , screening ..... to name a few . So here goes my first paisley collection ..... Just stepping back in time hunting from my old photos are some memories to which time and again I come repeatedly searching new ideas . Well , yes , you can never go wrong where paisleys are concerned . Such huge variety , shapes , colours , charm , that no one can help but stop to have just a glimpse of it .... .
