Cook With Love-kitchen collection

Hello dear friends!

Recently (a week ago) I joined Lilla Rogers ecourse- MATS-A. Should I say that the course is simple wonderful? Or do you want to hear that Lila is a superb teacher??? Ahaa! Yes, you guessed right. MATS-A is a super-duper ecourse, and Lila Rogers is the kind of teacher we all want in our lives if we want to achieve something more that just great!

The ecourse (MATS-A/Make Art That Sells-part A) is packed with Lila's great knowledge-- lots of videos and PDF's to read & download, and lovely assignments to do.

I have completed my first week- Bolt Fabric Market.

My assignment was to create a print for the bolt fabric market. The brief that Lila gave was to create a 'VINTAGE KITCHEN THEME', Pyrex, macaroni/pasta, herbs, etc. The colours should be no more that 10, with a dark background.

I loved to draw something that I had never tried before- food and kitchen utensils... But, it was such a fun to draw the jars, casseroles, salt and pepper shakers, spoons and forks etc. I took the liberty to add some vintage patterns too...

I love this 'vintage kitchen collection' in bright yet vintage-y colours... I hope you love it too!

See you soon...

Funny polka dots and Pantone colours

Hello!

I have changed with time. Just like you.

I made this happy pattern years ago using only two colours- blue and black with a touch of green as outlines (the last one in the collection below). I was not at all sure what to do with this pattern.

But then how can I stop myself from playing with this really cute pattern... I have really changed with time and start seeing things in a different way.

When I thought of redoing this pattern in some happy colours, it reminded me of a room full of colourful balloons, or a garden full of colourful wild flowers, or the colours of Holi... I let my mind run as far as it could and then I collected some lovely and lively Pantone colours to go with my playful mood. Depicting a little Spring and Summer seasons, I re-created the older one. Changing it a bit here and there- rotating a few, resizing a few, adding a few and removing a few, too.

And here is, at last, my newest collection in black & white, and in multicolour. You can see it on various home products in my SOCIETY6 store.

The patterns are available for sale. Please contact me if you are interested.

Thank you!

Boho - reviving the past!

Hello dear friends,
How are you? Just thought of sharing with you some of my newest designs in Kessinhouse.

This geometrical design, 'Bright Squares in Blue', was originally made by my daughter 4 years ago, sometimes in June 2011! I love her designs very much. I thought of giving it a new life... I made this design in three different colour ways.

Bright Squares in Blue--- http://kessinhouse.com/collections/nandita-singhbright-squares-blue

Bright Squares in Coral--- http://kessinhouse.com/collections/nandita-singhbright-squares-coral

Now, while talking of going back in the past in search of some old designs, I found this paisley-shaped motifs in black and white. I added a few more details. Then tried out some candy colours to it too!

All the links of the original designs are in bold RED colours. Click the link to go to the original pages.

New pattern collection + a step-by-step guide

 Hello!

How are you? I'm perfectly fine.
Yes, I know its been a long time since I posted anything here in my 'BLOG-LOVELY-BLOG!!!

Today I have something special and something new here, very new. Today I'm going to share a brand new pattern + a step-by-step guide (tutorial) too. Yeah!

I know this process is very simple but it is always good to start with simple motifs and simple designs (and simple process) if you are a beginner.

OK, many of you (designers) already know about Adobe Illustrator. I have made this pattern in AI (Adobe Illustrator) with the help of only one tool--- BLOB Brush tool!

But I must tell you that this is not the only method to create patterns in AI. There are other ways and other tools too. And not to forget the tradition way of drawing... pencil and paper!

So, lets get started---

You will find this tool just below the Paintbrush tool. If you can't see the tools, no problem. Just go to WINDOW>TOOLS.

Step one- Open a new document (art board) in AI. Click 'File>New and choose the art-board size of your choice. I took 4in x 4in square.
Click on the BLOB Brush tool and draw a flower, a simple freehand flower.

Now click on the Direct Selection tool (white arrow) and select the inner outline of your flower (not the outer outline). Click the delete button and WOW you have completely filled the flower in a solid colour, no outline to be seen. Actually, with this process you remove the inner white space and fill the object completely. Now you have a flower motif in two ways-- outline and filled! I took the 'filled' ones for my pattern.

Draw a star-shaped icon and remove the white space with the same process as you did with the flower motif.

Now choose a lovely colour palette for your flowers. This part is my favourite. I love colours. I selected some Spring/Summer colours here.

Want to experiment more with your motif? Add a few details and dots to it, again, with the Blob Brush!

Well, I was not very satisfied with the flowers. It seemed to me that something was missing in them... Ummm... yes, some more details needed. I added a few drop-shapes in them and now it looks complete.

Arrange these flowers to make a pattern, overlapping, sometimes, if needed.
And, here you have a colourful floral pattern in seamless repeat for home furnishing, kids' wall paper, pillows, dresses, wrapping papers and other stationery products...

That was fun creating a pattern, isn't it? What do you think of this pattern, and where would you like to see this?

Got any questions or any other queries about creating patterns,..? Please mail me!

Happy Weekend!

as you like it .....

        Hi ,

I am really confused with the appropriate title for this post . It's not floral , neither it is abstract , nor it is ethnic , so what actually it is ??? yes dear , I'm asking you people ... !  What do you think must be a suitable name ?  --- guess and let me know !

Starting with a solo floral pattern ( above ) , I've made a few further modifications / additions , and variations in colour combinations too .

          Enjoy your visit here !!!

         Something different ,

How to use these motifs ? No problem , embroider it with filling and outline stitches , or paint it on any of your favourite surface --- fabric ( for a dress , stoles , shopping bags , cushions , curtains ,  ) , wood ( doors , tables , chair backs , etc .) , trays , glass , mirror ... to name a few .Why not paint it simply on a white handmade paper , frame it , decorate your place or gift it to a friend who has a liking for handmade gifts ... and who can value your simple and loving gestures !

            In black and white ,

         see you next week .
